So I started going to the Workfirst program yesterday. It's basically a program for people who are on benefits so that they can get off their ass and get a job.
I was really nervous about it, but yesterday was a breeze. From about 8-11 we got the class organized with their files and computers(really easy since there were only three of us), and were taught where the best job listings are. We eached picked a job to look for and I found out that there are about 170 openings for office clerk and that you really don't need any experience beyond highschool.
The next class didn't start until 1, so I drove home and spent lunch with James and Charlie. Charlie did pretty well that morning, but she was glad to see me. For part of the morning, she had crawled around the apartment looking for me. I told James not to tell me that kind of crap when i had to go back in just a few minutes.
So the afternoon was really easy. We just took an assessment test to see if we needed more schooling or what have you. It's kind of funny... the guy grading the tests was from Bates Technical College (one of the places they have commercials for), and I overheard him ask two of the people in my class if they were interested in going to Bates to get more schooling. Well, I did pretty damn good on my test and he asked me if I were going to go to college. Not Bates, but a real school. *s* Made me happy.
So tomorrow (later today, really) my first class is at 9, but I was told to show up at 8 anyway.... don't know why, but I don't have any afternoon classes so I can come home at noon! *S* Then I can spend the afternoon playing with Charlie. *s*
I'm also planning her birthday party. (Her birthday is this Sunday!!) I want to have it in one of the parks around here so we can invite a bunch of people. Our apartment is WAY too small for more then a couple of guests. I'm trying to find a park with roofs over the picnic tables, but so far the only one I've found is in downtown Tacoma. ;P I'm sure something will work out. I'm just so excited that she'll be one on Sunday!!! *beam!*
